Regarding your comment here: While I think Flash is dominating the market as an Animation Platform, I will still bet on DHTML (+ AJAX) to stay dominant in the future for Web apps with rich UI. This is the same direction that Google has taken.

Having said that I think Ajax and Flash can play very well together: Flash adds a nice flavor to the page while Ajax makes the web page/app very natural to Web.  

Applications such as www.widgenie.com and www.vizlytics.com are good examples and showcase both AJAX and Flash in harmony. (Disclaimer: I am associated with LogiXML)
