Omg thank you for this article. Desperately seeking any excuse to make the audio users create with our app widget-embeddable so youd be able to play audio inline in facebook or embed it on your blog. but cannot see the business model in doing so as we can monetize traffic to OUR site but how would we monetize on an audio widget of the same audio embedded in Facebook??? No comparison. Also, with #NewTwitter, how will the companies that get their media directly embedded in the interface make a penny???

Sure, it's free advertising, but why advertise a service where you are giving all this bandwidth and serve storage away with zero recoupment strategy, adding value to Facebook rather than bringing ppl to YOUR site ??? Only, I want this for our lovely USERS. The viral boost would be killer, too. For now, however, their audiences are just going to have to clock through to our site.

I'm not sure you're fully getting the picture. Take a look at the market penetration these companies are making - www.clearspring.com, www.yourminis.com, www.gigya.com and others....

What is compelling to the widget publishers, developers and advertisers is that they've found a mass-distribution mechanism for their content across social networks, hub-n-spokes, blogs, startepages and more.

This level of content distribution coupled with comprehensive analysis tools are deepening publishers understanding user driven viral distribution trends.

I highly suggest you shake your head loose for a minute and freshen your perspective. It's a brave new world... you sound like you're not prepared.
